Do you have a Mathmos lava lamp? This page is dedicated to Edward Craven Walker who invented the original Lava Lamp. Originally known as the Astro lamp, it changed the world when it was first released for mass manufacture in 1963 and became an icon defining its time, culture and the people who originally peered into it, in the 1960s and the 1970s. It was a wonderful creation that is still in production today and the original Astro lava lamps are still produced by Mathmos, who is the original manufacturer in the UK. Please see: www.mathmos.com

Edward Craven Walker was born in 1918 and sadly passed away in 2000. During his life, he served his country as a pilot in the Second World War, founded the B.D.O.C, a naturist resort in the UK, invented the Astro lamp and was a creator of many naturist films which changed the way people looked at naturism. He founded the inspirational and unique lighting company Crestworth Ltd based in Poole which sold and marketed the lava lamp. In the photo on the left you can see Mr Walker holding an Astro Lantern with the iconic Mathmos Lunar floor standing rocket lamps in the background.

With Astro's success came a range of derivatives such as the Astro Mini, Astro Nordic, Astro Lantern and a whole host of beautiful lighting products. Crestworth became known as Mathmos and the Astro Lamp is still in production today. Mr Walker was an amazing individual and his legacy lives on today. To find out more please visit: www.flowoflava.com
